Kaizen is a Japanese term meaning "continuous improvement." It is a Japanese business philosophy (now adopted worldwide) which uses the processes that continuously improve operations.

Kaizen involves the key personnel  who work in the process to be improved, and involve all employees that are in any way connected with the process under study.

Kaizen provides improvement in productivity and in turn improve business performance as a gradual and methodical process.

The concept of kaizen encompasses a wide range of ideas. It involves making the work environment more efficient and effective by creating a team atmosphere, improving everyday procedures, ensuring employee satisfaction, and making a job more fulfilling, less tiring, and safer.

Key Takeaways

  • Kaizen is a philosophy that productivity can be improved gradually by involving all employees.
  • The small changes can involve quality control, just-in-time delivery, standardized work, the use of efficient equipment, and the elimination of waste.
  • Changes may come from employees anytime and don’t have a specific time frame, where kaizen merely recognizes that small changes now, can have big future impacts.
